HBO does it again

True Detective

My new favorite show on air right now

            Not all of the best television shows are on pay channels but the freedom that the FCC gives to pay channels helps. HBO more than any of "movie" channel produces grade "A" original content and they have struck gold again with their newest show True Detective. This show has only been on air for the last 3 weeks, so it is this early and you can get in on the ground level and you should.          Quick recap without any spoilers

         The show starts as basic law and order type cop drama but quickly turns into something much more. The dark look and theme of the show is similar to the show The Killing on AMC. The freedom that HBO has to show and go deeper with very dark and horrific themes is what really gives this show legs. From the awesome camera shots to the great story, there is a ton of reasons to watch this show but the number one reason is the ACTING!

     Mathew McConaughey is just superb. Over the last few years he has really shown that he is much more than the date movie actor that he once was. His roles in films like Mud, Wolf of Wall Street, and Dallas Buyers Club(which he lost like 80 pounds for) over the last few years have shown us that he is a great and convincing actor. 

    His co-star is Woody Harrelson who has been doing great work in films for years but jumps into the world of hour long T.V. dramas to do this awesome show.

If you are like me... 

you have found you have nothing to watch. Watch this show and you will not be disappointed. This is a weird time of year for Television. The Walking Dead isn't back yet and the spring set of new seasons and new shows has not yet started. But all the shows that started in the fall are over already or kinda of disappointing like America Horror Story which I loved the first two seasons but the story this year wasn't appealing to me, who cares about witches? Bridge the grab with a scary and moving murder/cop drama in True Detective.
